OMC Hydrogen Funded by Grantham Foundation

April 10, 2023

OMC has promising tech using heat, water, and waste CO2 to make fuels and chemicals

Boulder, Colorado - OMC Hydrogen has secured a $1.7 million seed round investment from Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment to further the commercialization of their isothermal reduction-oxidation (redox) process for creating green hydrogen from water and/or creating syngas from CO2 and water.  Syngas derived from waste CO2 using renewable sources of heat and domestically abundant, low-cost materials can then be upgraded into valuable hydrocarbons including methanol, diesel, and jet fuels, lubricants, and industrial chemicals.

OMC’s isothermal redox process offers substantial cost, performance, and scaling advantages over electrochemical or photochemical approaches. Their approach is designed to integrate and scale with existing industries such as fuels refining, ammonia production, and steelmaking.

The funds will be used to complete OMC Hydrogen's benchtop scale activities, which include setting a world efficiency record for the conversion of solar energy to fuels, technoeconomic modeling, building the team, forging strategic partnerships, and designing first pilots. “We are thrilled to be moving forward with the piloting stage to use waste CO2 to create useful hydrocarbons," said Britt Boughey, Founder of OMC Hydrogen. "We are also excited to collaborate with existing industrial consumers to provide affordable, renewable alternatives to critical chemicals and materials."

“We believe that OMC's thermochemical process and ability to produce hydrogen or syngas in one step is highly differentiated and will help enable the production of green fuels, chemicals, and solvents.” – Cyril Yee, Director at Grantham Foundation.

OMC Hydrogen's isothermal process holds immense promise in providing an affordable and sustainable solution to the world's growing energy needs, while also helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.

About OMC Hydrogen:

OMC Hydrogen is developing a scalable thermochemical platform that leverages domestically abundant materials to produce affordable green hydrogen and hydrocarbons using only sustainable sources of heat, water, and carbon dioxide. The process has substantial cost and performance benefits over electrochemical or photochemical approaches to supplant current fossil sources of hydrogen and hydrocarbons that can derived from syngas.
